Music and Health


There are many ways and reasons to listen to or play music. Sometimes we use music as a form of expressing or repressing emotions, as a source of motivation and encouragement, as a tool to explore memories, and sometimes for no apparent reason at all. Despite studies showing evidence of the negative effects of music (Wight, 2011, 2012; Chosiad, 2008; Scheel & Westfeld, 1999; Jones, 2010; Took & Weiss, 1994), it is seemingly almost a universal knowledge that music works to improve our psychological, emotional and physical health (Ansdell, 2010; Kivland, 1986; Kreutz, Bongard, Rohrmann, Hodapp & Grebe, 2004).
